Poly in the recent news
by alan7388 (alan7388)

A parenting magazine presents polyamory as a logical alternative. TV news goes all awkward covering a Loving More convention. Dan Savage as America’s most important sex ethicist. New poly books. More on campus. And, how to frame the emergence of polyamory as the natural outcome of the last several centuries of human development.

Polyamory in the News roundup
by alan7388 (alan7388)

Polyamory advocates break new ground before one of Canada’s highest courts, with media coverage to match. A happy poly household is featured on TV, with toddler. We read that “Three is the new two,” “Poly is the new gay,” and “Is polyamory the new black?” Deborah Anapol weighs upsides and downsides. And a study uncovers a pathetic truth: most young lovers don’t even hear each other’s agreements regarding monogamy.

Progress!

ok... i thought it would be nice not to leave everyone hanging after all my questions... and provide an update.

so after some talking... my hubby and I have decided to take things a bit further.  the conversations really weren't as painful as i thought they would be.  and i think he was feeling the same way as i was, that basically everything in life was sort of pointing us in this direction and we should just go with it.  we are taking things very slowly, to try to ensure we don't suddenly cross any lines we're not comfortable yet, but we are giving the poly lifestyle the good ol' college try!  =D

So... I've found myself with a new boyfriend for the first time in like 12 years.  which is sort of weird... but NOT in a bad way.  I'm giddy like a school girl all over again.  Not something i was really expecting to experience at this point in my life, but i am thoroughly enjoying it.

Trying to heed previous advise and not let the NRE get the best of me.  Its difficult at times, but i think i'm doing okay.  Making sure to give my hubby some extra attention, to ensure he knows nothing has changed between us.  And so far he's been even better than i could have hoped for about everything.

Like it was meant to be or something =D

Polyamory in the News roundup!

Polyamory’s most important court case since 1999 opens next week, and this time our side is prepared. Meanwhile, TV documentaries on polyfamilies in Quebec and Denmark show how TV can do it right if the producers are so inclined. In the U.S., “Sister Wives” sets the new public image for group families, and that’s not so bad. Writers from Dan Savage to a friendly Episcopal priest weigh in on poly life. And the poly-mono anthropology debate rolls on.

Polyamory in the News

A hot new book matches poly to our evolved human nature. A legal scholar examines what will happen if poly is viewed as a sexual orientation. Get ready for “the new monogamy,” the coming term for non-monogamy. Stranger in a Strange Land redux. Great radio and TV. Conservatives flip out.

Polyamory in the News: a race to define ourselves
by alan7388 (alan7388)
at May 20th, 2010 (10:15 pm)

Politicians spend millions to define who they are to the public before their opponents can do it for them. The modern polyamory movement has been defining itself successfully with nothing but volunteers, enthusiasm, and a shoestring. When does the backlash start? I keep waiting for it, and year after year it keeps not happening.

Polyamory in the News

“What happens when polyamory becomes mainstream?” It’s not there yet, but the last three months of poly in the media suggest it’s coming faster than we've expected.

A major newspaper makes waves profiling “Love’s new frontier.” John Stewart’s “The Daily Show” highlights a poly group of three. Many advice columnists increasingly get it. Seven new polyamory books are in the authoring/publishing pipeline. What's the big wide world hearing and saying about us? Quite a lot.

How are the media presenting polyamory to your worried mom in Dubuque? Sometimes, in interesting and insightful ways.
